Édition originale imprimée du vivant de l'auteur. L'auteur, tout d'abord avocat au parlement de Paris délaissa assez vite le barreau pour s'adonner tout entier à sa passion pour l'histoire de France. Il finit par être nommé historiographe du roi et employa toute son énergie à son grand uvre : une histoire nationale de la France qui demeura inachevée. Hoefer (XX-961) affirme que ses travaux formaient « 49 volumes ou cartons ». Son cérémonial et tout particulièrement cette édition originale qui renferme des informations intéressantes qui ne seront pas reprises dans les éditions ultérieures est un des premiers ouvrages du genre. Il répertorie de façon scrupuleuse et avec force détails les sacres et les couronnements des rois, leurs entrées solennelles dans les villes, les mariages, les naissances, les funérailles, et les diverses réceptions des grands de ce monde.
