Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the detailed biographies of 26 physicians from the medieval period through to the 18th century who played a crucial role in the development of medicine in the region of Silesia. These doctors were known for their advancements in medical care as well as their academic contributions. Some of them, such as Crato von Krafftheim, gained recognition beyond the borders of the state, actively taking part in the Habsburg court and advising on public health policies. One of the main themes of this book is the emergence of the medical profession during these centuries, first through the influence of monasteries and religious figures, followed by the establishment of medical faculties at universities. Another major point made by the author is that, even though these physicians used techniques and treatments that may seem antiquated to people today, their work was grounded in the scientific knowledge of the time and often helped improve the lives of their patients through their contributions to pharmacology, hygiene, and public health. Altogether, this well-researched book provides valuable insights into the history of medicine in Silesia and the role of physicians through the years. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
