Softcover. Zustand: Near Fine. First Edition. [ART]. Lauren Olitski Poster, Jules Olitski, Alex Grimley, Barbara Rose. "Jules Olitski: Mitt Paintings, March 6 - April 19, 2014." New York: Paul Kasmin Gallery. Printed by Guaranteed Printing in New York, 2014. First edition. English language. Softcover with full-color printed card wrappers with French flaps. Nonfiction art exhibition catalog with a foreword, several critical texts, an artist interview, exhibiton checklist, artist biography, and twelve full-color plates with didactic information. 12 x 12 inches. 18 oz. 54 pp. Shelf-wear. Text clean. Near Fine. ISBN: 9780988661332. "The series of Mitt paintings, not often exhibited during Jules Olitiski?s lifetime, bear witness to his unwavering passion for experimenting with color and light. In the late 80s he was one of the first artists to grasp the brand-new artistic possibilities of the new range of paints supplied by Golden Artists Colors Inc., the pioneering acrylic paint company. After throwing and spraying an abundance of material and raw color on the canvas, Olitski used mittens to spread it in a ballet of ample rippling movements that only looked improvised. The works shatter the codes of 'simple' painting while flirting with the codes of sculpture. The canvases reveal a subtle play of surfaces where both the acrylic paint and the light are sensually sculpted. In the artist?s hands, the material is alternately luminous or sombre, matte or glowing, elastic or adhesive.".

Paperback. Zustand: New. In the 1960s, American artist Jules Olitski exhibited his abstract spray paintings and sculptures to critical acclaim.Olitski created his sumptuously coloured canvases using an innovative technique involving industrial spray guns to apply mists of acrylic paint to canvas, creating the effect of ethereal fields of colour. Inspired by Olitski's masterpiece Shoot (1965) from the Currier Museum of Art's collection, this beautiful book features paintings, a sculpture, works on paper, and rare archival materials from the Jules Olitski Foundation. Olitski's historic sprays are complemented by a selection of contemporary paintings by Heather Hutchison, Joseph Marioni, Jane Swavely, and John Zurier, who also explore colour, light, and space in paintings that foreground perception and sensation.
