Larger 7" x 8 3/4" design than later printings from MacRae Smith. This volume was the first of the Andrew Lang fairy tale offerings to feature color plates by Manning Dev. Lee. Navy full cloth boards, gilt cover and spine titles with color plate, moderate shelf wear, rub, bow. Front cover features large titled plate with rendering of illustration from interior: "So the Three Mice Made Themselves a Boat and Set Sail." Title page with stylized border of colored vignettes. Brilliant frontispiece plate: "She Was Called Pretty Goldilocks." Pages generally very good; some dog-eared corners, moderate discoloration. One found with edge chip. At front and back, green and white monochromatic painterly endpapers with mirrored spread of swan queen flying through valley gorge.
