Con queste parole di Bernardo di Clairvaux si concludeva il volume Nuovi Studi su Onorio III pubblicato nel 2017 dall'Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medio Evo nella collana Italia Sacra. Era l'auspicio che gli studi sul pontificato di Onorio III (1216-1227) avessero un seguito. Lo stesso desiderio era stato espresso alla fine del seminario di ricerca Da Cencio Romano a Onorio III. Nuovi Studi, svoltosi presso la Pontificia Università Antonianum il 15 maggio 2018, le cui relazioni sono state pubblicate nella rivista Antonianum, fascicolo 3 del 2019. Onorio III è stato per lungo, forse troppo tempo, uno dei pontefici storiograficamente meno frequentati. Il suo stesso ruolo, che è in realtà centrale, nella genesi e nello sviluppo storico dell'Ordine dei frati Minori è stato così sfumato. Eppure, a porre la firma in calce alla celebre Solet annuere, con la quale il 29 novembre 1223 la Sede Apostolica conferma la Regola di vita dell'Ordine creato da Francesco d'Assisi, è proprio Onorio III. Nella prospettiva di contribuire allo sviluppo degli studi su questo pontefice, e continuare a dare un seguito all'auspicio bernardiano di non fermare la ricerca, la Scuola Superiore di Studi Medievali e Francescani della Pontificia Università Antonianum ha promosso e organizzato in collaborazione con l'Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medio Evo il convegno internazionale Onorio III, i frati Minori e la Regola del 1223.
