Un acte de baptême, où il figure comme parrain dans cette église, nous apprend qu à l âge de 24 ans (1701), il était clerc régent au collège de Mayenne. *** A la porte de cette même ville se trouve une ferme nommée La Fosse, jadis, sans doute, propriété de la famille Guyard ; de là le surnom de La fosse donné à l abbé Jean-Baptiste Guyard. *** La "Bibliographie du Maine" par M. N. Desporte, place la naissance de Guyard de La Fosse (Jean-Baptiste), prêtre, historien en 1591, et sa mort en 1651 ; ce qui est une erreur bien évidente, puisque son « Histoire de Mayenne » se termine à une époque plus moderne [1733]. *** Le même ouvrage donne un article sur l abbé de La fosse, à qui sont attribuées des « Remarques sur les observations de M. Le beuf sur les peuples Diablintes, etc. », Paris, 1741, in-12 de 24 feuillets. La première erreur entraîne ici dans une seconde ; en effet ces deux productions sont généralement attribuées au même auteur. *** La "Concordance de la Bibliothèque du Monastère de Saint-Vincent", conservée à la bibliothèque publique du Mans, attribue à l abbé de La Fosse, prêtre de Mayenne, une "Histoire des évêques du Mans jusqu au 17 novembre 1637, jour de la mort de Mgr Charles de Beaumanoir de Lavardin" ; travail resté en manuscrit dans un recueil d histoire, à la bibliothèque de l abbaye dont on vient de parler. *** La "Bibliothèque Historique de la France", par J. Lelong, cite de notre auteur : *** 1° - "Remarques sur les observations de M. Le Beuf, au sujet des peuples Diablintes et de leur pays", particulièrement par rapport à l histoire de Mayenne, prête à être mise à jour (par l abbé de La Fosse). Paris, Mouchet, 1740, in-12. *** (Ces Remarques précèdent l Histoire de Mayenne, terminée, comme on le voit, en 1740). *** 2° - Le "Nivernois", sur les nouvelles observations, par le Sr de La Fosse. Paris, Daumont, 1760, in-folio, et plusieurs autres semblables cartes de diverses provinces de France ; cartes dont certainement l abbé Guyard, mort en 1743, ne fut pas l auteur. *** Les deux départements de la Sarthe et de la Mayenne possèdent différentes copies de l "Histoire de Mayenne", nous publions le manuscrit de M. Ch.Drouët, du Mans, qui est de beaucoup le plus complet, le mieux soigné, et qui paraît avoir été préparé par l abbé de La Fosse lui-même, pour être livré à l impression.
