This book contains an essay adapted from a lecture presented to the Typocrafters on October 14, 1995. It was printed for those who attended the Typocrafters' 60th anniversary meeting from October 3-5, 1997. The essay traces Bru…ce Rogers' career as a typographer, with special focus on the development of the Centaur typeface. Printed in Centaur and Arrighi types on Mohawk Superfine paper, and bound in Hehnemühle Bugra wrappers. Designed, printed, and bound by David P. Wall. The typography is by the notable American book designer Bruce Rogers (1870-1957), who "was appreciated in his lifetime. In addition to several honorary degrees, in 1948 he was awarded a gold medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for distinction in the graphic arts. Over decades of accomplishment in which he designed approximately 500 books. Rogers literally defined the profession of book designing in the United States" (ANB). The volume gathers integrated st…udies of the uppermost Cretaceous Hell Creek Formation as exposed in the Williston Basin of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana, drawing together newly analyzed material from western North and South Dakota with earlier work from the Fort Peck Reservoir area. Contributions address the lithostratigraphy of the Hell Creek Formation in North Dakota; magnetostratigraphy and geochronology of the Hell Creek and basal Fort Union formations; palynology and microstratigraphy of Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary sections in southwestern North Dakota, northwestern South Dakota, and central Montana; vertebrate biostratigraphy and a synopsis of the Hell Creek dinosaur assemblage; patterns of geographic variation in latest Cretaceous vertebrates; the megaflora of the Hell Creek and lower Fort Union formations in the western Dakotas; a preliminary assessment of insect herbivory across the K-T boundary; and a historical chapter on early picking of the boundary in the Williston Basin, closing with a 2001 synthesis of the formation. Topics treated include evidence for the persistence of the Western Interior Seaway and a proposed duration for Hell Creek deposition.
