Hackett was a member of Brad Washburn's team on the first ascent of Mt McKinley via the West Buttress. In 1960 he led a German-American attempt on K2, which followed the route of Desio's successful Italian team, but the expedition was thwarted by bad weather and reached 7250m. Richard Sale's copy, with his signed bookplate. Richard Sale is author of On Top of the World and other mountaineering titles.

Book measures 229mm tall x 154mm, and has 295 pages, several Molenaar route diagrams, chapter heading vignettes, glossary, list of ascents, biblio. Biography of Bill Hackett, his climbs and his WWII fighting with the 10th Mtn Division. He was member of Washburn's first ascent of the West Buttress of Mt McKinley. In 1960 he led an expedition that attempted K2 via Abruzzi Ridge. He made several first ascents in Alaska/Yukon including first ascent of the N Peak of Mt Logan. Signed by Author(s).
