James Clinkskill arrived in Canada from Glasgow in 1882, he and a business partner Thomas E. Mahaffy were bound for Saskatchewan. There he was witness to the Riel Rebellion, the early years of the railroad, establishment of provincial government, the failure of the Barr Colony, and the contracting of the first waterworks for Saskatoon. During that time he married, raised a family and ran a successful general merchandise business. All this is documented in his personal journals. Section of b/w photos at center.
