A World War II guidebook issued by the National Aeronautics Council for individuals with an interest in identifying the "leading fighting planes of the United States, Great Britain, Norway, Germany, Italy, Russia, Japan, France." Each war plane description includes a photograph, three position silhouettes, and general specifications including armaments. About 5 3/4 x 9 inches, 96 pages in stapled binding. Pictorial, light-card wrappers with rounded outside corners and front cover graphics showing multiple planes caught in spotlight beams above a city. Orange and blue color scheme with orange and black lettering. Back cover contains extensive list of planes included in black lettering against orange background. In addition to individual plane descriptions, contents include an index, recognition characteristics such as spinners, cockpit canopies, wing types and location. Also a page with the insignia used on planes by various nations. An order-form return envelope is bound-in. Wrappers and text are complete, clean and unmarked. There is a tiny chip missing at bottom of spine and a small, dime-sized discolored area near lower corner of back cover. No other noticeable flaws or damage. This copy also contains a laid-in flyer describing the Aeronautics Council's "new home instruction course" which helps prepare you for 48 kinds of aviation jobs from pilot to airport engineering and design. A collectable copy of a small piece of WWII history.
