dj. First Edition. First impression. Large octavo (23cm). Black cloth hardcover; dustjacket; xx,176pp; color frontispiece and 18 unnumbered leaves of plates, most from photographs by the author; two others after color illustrations by J.C. Harrison. Faint foxing to prelims and text block edges, else a very clean copy, complete a…nd unmarked. In the original color-pictorial dustwrapper, priced 12s.6d. on spine panel; lightly rubbed at extremities with faint dustsoil; Very Good or better. A justifiably famous study of the greatest of all European raptors, the Golden eagle of the Scottish Highlands, by the noted ornithologist and photographic pioneer Seton Gordon; written (as were many of his books) in collaboration with his wife Audrey Gordon. Very uncommon in dustwrapper; this is a bright, attractive copy. From the library of noted poet and translator (and amateur ornithologist) Nathaniel Tarn, with his printed bookplate inside front cover.
