He also gave the self-help group Alcoholics Anonymous its first national exposure with a 1939 interview. He was a morale booster during some of the nation's most arduous days. Book is edgeworn, leather that is flaking, large section of spine is chipped off. Deckled (untrimmed) page edges. Front and back pastedown and end-papers are age-toned. Both items are in decorated wrappers with the author's photo and printed signature on the front cover. Coverage of the "trial of the century". which convicted Bruno Richard Hauptmann of the murder and kidnapping of the young child of Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh, cemented Heatter's position as a reporter and radio broadcaster. "Word Pictures of the Hauptmann Trial", 31 pages, contains a summary of the trial itself, and "Resume Book of the Flemington Trial", 22 pages with 27 black and white photographic illustrations, focuses on the evidence, with photos of the ladder, wood, and dollar bills that were used to tie Hauptmann to the killing. Hauptmann, a German immigrant, was executed in 1936. He and his wife claimed that he was innocent to the end.
