"It has long been a popular misconception that only a handful of people in the world can understand Einstein's theory of Relativity. Here is a book, however, by the originator of the theory himself explaining the theory in simple words that anyone with the equivalent of a high school education can understand. This is, of course, the source book of the Atomic Age and as such is one of the most important books ever written. It is complete and unabridged and contains "The Special Theory of Relativity," "The General Theory of Relativity," "Considerations on the Universe as Whole," with appendices, bibliography and index. If your library were to contain only the ten books which most influenced the course of human destiny, it would contain a copy of this book." - from the inner front jacket flap. "The book is intended to give an exact insight into the theory to those who are not conversant with the mathematical apparatus of theoretical physics. In the opinion of this reviewer, in this attempt he has been eminently successful." - The New York Times. "Written in an unpretentious, straightforward style. The trend of his exposition can be followed in the main by any attentive reader." - New York Post. Karsh of Ottawa (jacket front photograph); Struck, Hermann (jacket back sketch) (illustrator). …

174 S. : Ill.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents an exhaustive examination of the life and artwork of Hermann Struck, whose unique style captures the essence of both the Jewish experience and the modern art movement of his time. The author explores Struck's journey from his early studies in Berlin to his influential years in Holland, where he was deeply inspired by the works of Rembrandt and other Old Masters. Struck's mastery of various etching techniques, particularly the vernis mou, enabled him to create evocative landscapes and portraits imbued with a sense of melancholy and introspection. Drawing parallels between Struck's Jewish heritage and his artistic vision, the book highlights the influence of his travels to the Middle East, where he documented the lives and traditions of Jewish communities. Through his art, Struck not only captured the physical world around him but also delved into the complexities of human emotion and the search for meaning in an ever-changing world. This book is a testament to the enduring significance of Struck's artistic legacy, offering a comprehensive analysis of his creative process and the profound themes that shaped his body of work. It serves as a valuable resource for art enthusiasts, historians, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the intersection between art and identity in the early 20th century. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
