It is founded neither upon an affair of blood, nor upon a breach of the seventh commandment, nor upon an ingeniously contrived puzzle, nor upon supernatural conditions, involving fanciful conversation with the Dead, but upon the commonplace social conditions of the period.".Condition: Signed copy. The author has dedicated it to its owner by saying it is "from" and then circling his name and dating it. See image. Book also bears an inscription stating it had been owned by the great-great-great nephew of the author. Text block edges are darkened and there is some internal foxing. Front board shows mild shelf wear or staining of some sort. Spine hinges also show shelf wear and the top and bottom of the spine show some bumping. There is a small piercing to where the front board meets the spine, just below the title. The binding is robust but there is some minor separation around page 320 (see image).

Published Croton Falls, NY: Spiral Press, 1932. 4to., 8 1/4" x 11 1/4", unpaginated, drawings by William Spratling, illustrated with b/w plates and architectural plans and renderings. Bound in dark blue publisher's cloth with gilt embossed titles to cover and spine, gilt cover design, beveled edges, pictorial map endpapers. Inscribed by Morrow to Mr. and Mrs. Reeve Schley: "For Mr. and Mrs. Reeve Schley who knew Casa Manana. with a Merry Christmas from Elizabeth Morrow. December 1932." A rare work and important resource on Mexican architecture and pottery by Elizabeth Cutter Morrow on Cuernavaca, Mexico, where she and her husband, U.S. Senator Dwight Morrow, who was Ambassador to Mexico from 1927 to 1930, bought adjoining plots to build a house inspired by the local historic architecture. The book is divided into three sections. Section one describes the town of Cuernavaca. Section two contains architectural plans and details for the home and gardens. Section three contains photo reproductions of the Mexican furnishings in the house, including water jars, jewelry boxes and woven garments. American-born expatriate artist and designer William Spratling created drawings for the new house and illustrated the text. Elizabeth Morrow was an American poet in the early 20th century, who became the first female head of Smith College. Morrow was the mother of Anne Morrow Lindbergh, distinguished American author and wife of aviation pioneer Charles Lindbergh. Near fine. Rare. Signed by Author(s).

Illustrations by George Morrow (1869 - 1955), cartoonist and art editor at Punch. William Macneile Dixon (1866 -1946) was a poet and scholar. A charming children's illustrated book about several children who enter a garden inhabited by beloved fictional and historical characters, such as Cinderella, the Fairy Queen, Alice in Wonderland, and Shakespeare. 8vo, original cloth. 136 pp; col frontis, text drawings. Owner's inscription to half title. Very good in very good dust jacket (slight edge-wear).

Hardcover. Zustand: Very fine. Octavo. 49, (8)pp + 4 inserted plates. Plates, plus frontispiece, are aquatints, an appropriate medium in response to Lovecraft's aqueous mythology. Included as epilogue is Lovecraft's A History of the Necronomicon (An Outline), along with an ersatz facsimile of Lovecraft's fictional grimoire. Printed in Bembo and Desdemona types on Guarro paper, with aquatints on Arches Text. Originally Morrow-Cribbs planned to execute the illustrations on kitikata, but found the result too transparent; a sample of that printing is laid in. In a quarter vellum binding by Claudia Cohen featuring the patterned boards painted by the printer and printed by the artist. Housed in a cloth folding case containing the extra prints and the etching plate in separate chemises. Very fine. From an edition of fifty, this is number one of five copies specially bound and issued with a suite of first-state proofs, a suite of aquatints, and the original etching plate for the first illustration.
