This first edition is a cornerstone of Soviet book design theory, created by a collective of 15 contributors under the supervision of the USSR Ministry of Culture. Structured into three comprehensive sections, it delves into the principles and methodologies of book design and editing. The first section analyzes key components such as typography, illustrations, ornaments, and tables, demonstrating their role in reinforcing the book's content and usability. The final section outlines the collaborative process of artistic and technical editing, from layout to production, with extensive practical examples. Illustrated throughout with examples of Soviet typographic and graphic design, this work serves as a definitive guide, rejecting avant-garde experiments in favor of practical and proletarian aesthetics. This edition offers a unique historical lens into the artistic and technical disciplines underpinning mid-20th-century Soviet publishing, making it an invaluable reference for bibliophiles, design historians, and collectors of Soviet ephemera.…
