Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book tells the remarkable story of the Cape Corps, a military unit composed of men of color from South Africa, who served in a variety of conflicts from 1795 to the end of World War I. The book goes beyond a mere chronicle of battles and deployments to delve into the nuanced history of this unique unit, exploring the changing social and political landscape of South Africa as it impacted the role of the Cape Corps. The author traces the origins of the Corps back to the Pandours, a Hottentot militia employed by the Dutch, and examines the transformation of the Corps over time, from its early days as a primarily Hottentot unit to its integration of men of mixed race and its ultimate incorporation into the British forces. The book offers a compelling analysis of the complex relationship between European colonial powers and the diverse African population, revealing the Cape Corps as a microcosm of the evolving power dynamics and racial tensions of the era. The book's insights into the Cape Corps' unique contribution to South African history, as well as its broader role in the evolving social fabric of the region, make it a valuable read for anyone interested in the history of military units, colonial warfare, and the evolution of race relations in South Africa. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
