This copy is from a 19th Century private lending institution, the Mercantile Library of New York City. Brother Jonathan was a weekly publication operated by Benjamin Day (founder of the New York Sun and a bit of a sensationalist) from 1842 to 1862, and was the first weekly illustrated publication in the United States.
