Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the Jewish people's belief in the existence of an Oral Torah, a set of teachings not included in the written Torah. This Oral Torah was passed down through generations, explaining mysteries, types, prophecies, and precepts of the Torah, and was believed to contain truths vital to understanding the faith. However, the book delves into the Talmudic account of this Oral Torah, arguing that the history provided is embellished and inaccurate. The author posits that traditions existed among the Jews from the time of Moses, and were propagated through teachers, prophets, and schools. The book further contends that these traditions proliferated through the Hellenistic influences of the time, and the concept of making a hedge around the law. The book concludes by studying the efforts of Rabbi Judah the Saint and Rabbi Jochanan to compile these traditions into the Mishnah and Talmud, respectively. Ultimately, this book sheds light on the development, nature, and significance of Jewish traditions, offering insights into the historical evolution of Jewish thought and practice.
