Der Verfasser der Biographie, weiland Professor der Kirchengeschichte an der Universität Helsinki, dann Bischof zu Tampere, D. Jaakko Gummerus (18701933), gehörte sowohl als gelehrter Theologe wie auch als Förderer des praktischen kirchlichen Lebens zu den hervorragendsten führenden Persönlichkeiten der finnischen Kirche. Als Kirchenhistoriker war Gummerus ein Schüler von Th. Brieger und Fr.
