Der erste Band legt seinen Schwerpunkt auf die weitläufige Darstellung der Strafgerichtspraxis und deren Akteure [und] unterschiedlichste Formen von Körperstrafen, wozu auch eine ganze Reihe von Ehren und Schandstrafen gehört." (ebd., S.8) Der zweite Teil des Buches widmet sich den verschiedensten Arten der Todesstrafe.- Wenig ist bekannt über den Verfasser Jacob Döpler (verstorben 1693), der erst als Geschichtsschreiber und dann als Gräflicher Hof- und Kammerrat in der Grafschaft Schwarzburg-Sondershausen tätig war.
