Cr. 8vo. 381 pp. Copy fine throughout including fine, unclipped dustjacket. We might expect a lengthy book on only verses 1-4 of the eighth chapter of Romans to be wearisome and repetitive, but this is not the case. Thomas Jacomb (1622-87) tells us that he found by digging into this mine that it was full of rich matter. All the major truths of the gospel are here, in a remarkably readable manner, especially the practical subjects which the Puritans loved to expound. Nichol, 1868. Crown 8vo. 381 pp. Original brown cloth binding with marbled boards. Gilt title on spine. Very good condition with some typical, very slight scuffing at top of spine. Boards nice and clean and shiny. Contents crisp and unmarked apart from some spotting on the endpapers. A nice tome! These volumes (Nichol's Series), of which 6 have already appeared, we express our admiration for them most cordially. All that tends to bring the vast stores of the good old Puritan theology within the reach of men with ordinary means comes so closely home to us who take special interest in students for the Christian ministry that they come with our hearty concurrence and co-operation. We are glad to be able to give them access to the more ancient fountains. The Puritan age was one of great erudition, unwearied application, deep felt experience, and unbounded veneration for the authority of the Divine Word. To a young minister such a course of study is indispensable, and in this, the commentaries before us provide him with the most valuable help and stimulus. - Sword & the Trowel (1866).

Raised bands with fine title on maroon label which reads 'Jacomb's Grand Charter of Believers'. Where this comes from is uncertain? Contents clean crisp and unmarked apart from one or two marks. Very nice copy of this seventeenth century comment. Lovely original C17th boards sympathetically rebacked over raised bands with red label. Jacomb was a moderate Puritan who was installed as a D.D. in Cambridge at the Restoration; however, he was ejected for non-conformity in 1662.
