Erstausgabe
No statement of edition or printing. Quarto; stapled sheets with cloth tape spine, 46pp. Slight dusting to covers, else Fine. Text entirely in Sesotho. A fictional text for juvenile readers, likely written with pedagogic intent. From our admittedly amateur attempts at translation, the tale revolves around the adventures of Mahlasinyane, the son of a farmer, who one day, in a fit of adolescent pique, runs away from home so that he may "do as he pleases." We have not read further, but given the source of publication, one may infer that a series of Christian moral allegories follow. OCLC notes three copies in North America (and one other in South Africa); UCLA cataloguing gives the dates as "1970," almost certainly in error as Basutoland was officially renamed Lesotho in 1966.

In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. Words flow from the heart in chapters and verses, painting vivid images of life in the countryside. True to its title, it indeed pulls at the heartstrings of the reader. The pages turn to exude love and respect flowing through a sacred stream of emotions. Generations of family life is captured to nourish the nostalgic craving for days gone by. Infused with deep spirituality, it captures every aspect of daily life in the Indo-Trinidadian community over the past century. In a delightful series of lyrical prose interspersed with poetry, it traces the plight of the Indians of India during the British occupation to tell the story of the lies and trickery of Indentureship, the uncertainty of crossing the Kala Pani, the hardship of life on the plantations of Trinidad, and the eventual building of communities at the end of the indentureship, to the progress of family through subsequent generations into the present day. Each section of prose, and every poem present a wonderful snapshot of narrative filled with detailed description of tropical scenery, homes and public buildings, gardens and fields, provisions and fruit, religious customs, cultural traditions and historical references to Trinidads 'progress from its colonial past to its Independence. Woven into the timeline are landmarks such as the coming of electricity in the rural villages, the radio tuned to the BBC with programming of songs from India, the advent of the cinema with Indian films, better access to education, and a growing awareness of the family's place in a changing world.Deeply moving, this work is masterful storytelling at its best! Words have power, and writers are the stewards of that power. Ariti Jankie has written a masterpiece that bares the soul of the writer d draws the reader into a magical place with the eloquence of words and the poignancy of emotion as the character Asha embarks on her journey of writing. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -In the midst of emerging literature that documents negative attitudes of students towards Setswana education and that suggest that Batswana students find it meaningful to learn curriculum content that is related to their daily experiences, language teachers need to reshape their pedagogies to create classroom contexts that nurture academic success for all students whilst privileging community knowledge and worldviews as well as students' personal experiences. Informed by the literature on culturally relevant/responsive pedagogy, literacy and educational discourse the book provides insights into how discourses constructed in Setswana lessons, in interaction with those constructed in the macro contexts of the society simultaneously accommodate and silence students' personal experiences and community knowledge. The desire by the Government to uplift the status of Setswana education makes this significant. This book should be useful to language and literacy educators, policy-makers, stakeholders who call for the recognition of personal and community experiences in educational contexts and those interested in discourses in African classrooms 264 pp. Englisch.
