Owner name on front wrap, cheap newsprint paper uniformly toned but supple, small creases on last two page corners, light toning on the wrappers, else a handsome and near fine copy.… The first and only issue of this celebration and recognition of the contributions of African-American service members in the early days of the War. Also includes content on the Womens' Army Corp, Red Cross Nurses, an interview with Benjamin O. Davis with the Tuskegee airmen, and many accounts of lesser-known achievements by Black soldiers. The cover photograph is of Admiral Nimitz decorating Doris "Dorie" Miller with the Navy Cross in 1942, for his actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The caption notes that Miller was then currently Missing in Action. (Miller, a Texas native, was killed in action at the age of 24 when his ship *Liscome Bay* was torpedoed during the Battle in the Gilbert Islands.) Very scarce, *OCLC* locates five or six copies.
