Policymakers in Washington, D.C., reasoning that non-Communist regimes were not necessarily a threat to democracy or national interests, found it expedient to support them. People living under these…governments associated the United States with their oppressors, with long-term negative consequences for U.S. policy. American policymakers were primarily concerned with fostering stability in these countries. The dictatorships, eager to maintain political order and create economic growth, looked to American corporations and bankers, whose heavy investments cemented the need to support the regimes. Through an examination of consular records in nine countries, the author describes the logistics and consequences of these relationships.

In less than a year, Action was pulled from circulation, then returned months later, a sanitised, pale shadow of its former self. But the spark had already been lit. Action had made its mark and became the catalyst for the evolution of the British comics scene, pathing the way for 2000 AD and the British invasion of UK talent into America. There are nine missing issues, 12/1, 19/1, 26/1, 2/2, 9/2, 17/5, 24/5, 31/5, and 7/6, otherwise complete. "Battle Picture Weekly", also later known as "Battle Action Force", "Battle", and "Battle with Storm Force", was pu…blished from 8/3/1975 until 23/1/1988. It then merged with "Eagle". On October 23rd 1975 it became "Battle Picture Weekly and Valiant", until 1/10/1977. On 12/11/77 it merged with "Action", and then became "Battle Action" until 1/8/1981 when it reverted to "Battle" until 1983. It was initially brought about to challenge the success of "Warlord". The freelance writer Pat Mills together with John Wagner collaborated with Gerry Finlay-Day to produce a rival comic that could compete. A pleasing collection here of most of the 1980 issues, very good condition, especially considering the quality of the paper used! A great opportunity to buy a little piece of comic history!
