This captivating book is a collection of poetry and prose that uses a variety of styles to explore the sights and history of the northern city of Manchester in the 19th Century. The author, who is a resident of the city and who knows its every nook and cranny, places the city and its people within their historical context, celebrating the achievements of the industrial revolution while also acknowledging the social challenges it created. The book also discusses the city's vibrant cultural scene and its varied architecture, particularly its churches and public buildings. The author's rhymes and prose offer an insight into the everyday lives of the citizens of the time, from the traders of Cannon Street to the gentlemen who frequented the theater. In this way, the book uses a mix of wit and erudition to illuminate the life of Manchester during an era of rapid change and growth, and highlights the ways in which it influenced society and culture. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
