The final two issues of Eugene Jolas?s influential literary periodical Transition, which printed several extracts from the work in progress that became Finnegans Wake through its ten-year run. Issue 26 is the first appearance in print of an 18-page section that became with some revisions the opening section of part 3, the episode of the Norwegian Captain and the Tailor, while issue 27 contains the first appearance of what became the third section of part 3, the radio play dialogue between Taff and Butt. In addition to the Joyce material, the issues also contain an extract from Anaïs Nin?s prose Poem The House of Incest, and parts two and three of editor Eugene Jolas?s three-part translation of Kafka?s The Metamorphosis.
