In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: New. Under the Same Moon is a deeply reflective and spiritually rich collection of poems written during Lent 2024 by Sister Mary Joy Langdon BEM - a woman whose life has been shaped by service, faith, and compassion.Written each evening following long days of dedication to children, horses, and community life at the Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre, these poems grew out of silence, prayer, and contemplation. They follow the spiritual journey through Lent to Easter, but speak far beyond one season, addressing themes of creation, suffering, hope, social justice, compassion, forgiveness, and renewal.Sister Mary Joy's words are shaped by her lived experience: as Britain's first operational firewoman, as the founder of a charity supporting children with special educational needs, and as a member of a religious community. Her poems reflect a deep awareness of human struggle as well as divine presence - finding God not only in scripture and tradition, but in nature, stillness, and everyday acts of love. Each poem invites the reader into gentle reflection, encouraging stillness, gratitude, and awareness of God's creative and redeeming presence. Whether read as daily meditations, prayerful readings, or quiet reflections, these poems offer comfort, challenge, and reassurance for anyone seeking spiritual nourishment.Under the Same Moon reminds us that although our experiences differ, we share the same sky, the same fragile earth, and the same call to live with compassion and hope.

In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: New. "A Journey of Service" is the compelling memoir of Mary Joy Langdon, who made history in 1976 as Britain's first operational female firefighter in peacetime. The book traces her trailblazing journey from offering to help at a rural East Sussex fire station-unaware that she was shattering the gender barrier-to her life of service beyond the fire brigade. In a male-dominated world, Mary Joy faced physical challenges, major incidents, and the pressures of the job, all while quietly carving a path for future female firefighters.Mary Joy's story is not just about breaking barriers in the fire service. It is a testament to resilience, faith, and community. After leaving the fire service, she dedicated herself to religious life with the Sisters of the Infant Jesus. Her mission as a religious sister was to help children and young people. Her founding of the Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre in 1989 became another chapter of service-a journey that has transformed the lives of many. Her mission led to helping thousands of inner-city children and young people including those with disabilities to find confidence, healing, and purpose through the power of horses. This book is a powerful reflection on courage, teamwork, and the enduring impact of serving others. It will inspire not only those interested in firefighting but anyone who believes in the power of persistence and compassion. Profits from the book will support the next generation of firefighters through the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Cadet programme.

Zustand: Very good. Textile product label (170 x 135). Engraved script below imprint cropped affecting several words, one short tear, corner chip, light soil. Our example appears to have actually been used for its original purchase, namely pasted on fabric as there is still glue residue on the verso, and numbering in pencil and also red ink on the verso. The number of yards of the fabric is recorded in contemporary ink: "48.2" Wonderfully gloomy factory scene rendered at the height of the American Industrial Revolution. The engraving depicts the Boston manufacturing plant of Joy, Langdon & Co., located at 76 Chauncey Street. Here the viewer is confronted by a bleak "no exit" view, with towering factories on both sides bisected by train tracks leading inexorably towards a belching smoke stack; on the left is an almost ecclesiastical looking building topped with a bell tower. The scene is populated with a total of seven men in suits and top-hats; curiously, the individual at the far right is nearly twice the size as the others. Only one other copy of this label appears to be known, namely the example at the Historic New England Museum.
