DeSalvo (1942-2018) was an American writer, editor, professor, and lecturer who lived in New Jersey. ; Kathleen Walsh D'Arcy's Irish roots stem from County Offaly and Tipperary. Her parents emigrated from Ireland in the 1920s and she was born and raised in Manhattan, in Holy Name Parish. Her mother, Kathleen Kearney Walsh, was a founding member and president of the Offaly Association, the first woman director of the United Irish Counties Association, the founder of the Irish Hospital Cheer Committee, and the president and founder of the East Hampton Irish American Club.Her father, Patrick F. Walsh, was a famous bandleader in New York, a member of the Musicians' Union, the Hotel Workers' Union, and the Tipperary Association.As a child, Kathleen was immersed in Irish culture. She was a step dancer with the McNiff School and a competitor in the U.I.C Feis, dancing and singing. She marched and step-danced up the avenue in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. She spent time in Ireland as a child and teenager, later living in Dublin in the early 70s, working for Sinn Fein. Kathleen has worked as a writer, editor, teacher and social worker. She compiled and co-edited "Territories of the Voice/Short Fiction by Irish Women Writers" (Beacon Press). As a social worker, she has worked with homebound elders, teen mothers, and domestic violence survivors. ; Katherine Hogan teaches English and Latin at Pearl River High School in New York. First published in 1920 in 'Daisy Ashford: Her Book', this is a first illustrated edition, first impression, illustrated by Ralph Steadman, of 1966. Some edge wear to top and bottom of largely pink jacket and spine, spine and extremities of jacket… slightly faded, corners bruised, small damp mark to bottom front flap, not price clipped (13s 6d), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 77pp. Daisy Ashford (1881-1972), found fame when she wrote 'The Young Visiters' when she was only nine years old and the book (and title) retains her childish spelling. When published in 1919, it was an immediate success, and several of her other stories (including this) were published in 1920. A romantic tale of Beatrice Langton and her lover Laurence Cathcart. In 1920 she married James Devlin and settled in Norfolk, at one time running the King's Arms Hotel in Reepham. She did not write in later years, although in old age she did begin an autobiography which she later destroyed. She died in 1972. Jacket and illustrations by Ralph Steadman (illustrator).

Its child's view of high society (dukes and earls having 'levies' and residing in the 'Crystall Palace') and its heavily romantic plot make it an engaging and enduring popular work. When published in 1919, it was an immediate success, and several of her other stories were published in 1920. In the same year, she married James Devlin and settled in Norfolk, at one time running the King's Arms Hotel in Reepham. She did not write in later years, although in old age she did begin an autobiography which she later destroyed. She died in 1972.
