Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the premise that society has its origins in an understanding of God and man's obedience to Him, arguing that faith is the foundation of any true community. The author begins by defining the terms of this proposition, considering the nature of the commonwealth, civil life, and social life. They go on to explore the domestic roots of the commonwealth, arguing that the eternal relations of authority, obedience, and brotherhood are not man-made, but rather stem from God and nature itself. The author then draws comparisons between the Hebrew, Greek, and Roman worlds, highlighting the role of divine law and sacredness in the home and state. They conclude by examining the Christian world, emphasizing that it is the product of Christian homes created by Christian marriage. The author argues that the laws and relations of the natural home were confirmed by a higher sanction and invested with a deeper spiritual significance, ultimately concluding that a society without God has no real foundation, since the very laws that hold it together are derived from a higher power.
