Dalle origini all'armistizio es el memorial histórico de Junio Valerio Borghese sobre la formación y las operaciones de los medios de asalto de la Regia Marina italiana durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. La narración se extiende desde los antecedentes de estas unidades especiales hasta el armisticio italiano del 8 de septiembre de 1943. Borghese escribe desde su experiencia directa como oficial naval y comandante del submarino Scirè, utilizado para transportar los siluri a lenta corsa —torpedos tripulados— empleados por los comandos submarinos italianos. El volumen reconstruye el desarrollo técnico de esos medios, su entrenamiento y distintas operaciones contra instalaciones y unidades navales británicas, junto con los riesgos y dificultades de las misiones. El libro posee especial interés dentro de la historia naval de la Segunda Guerra Mundial porque combina relato testimonial, documentación operativa y abundante material gráfico.
