In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. God is not a product of a chemical reaction! In a chemical reaction, you put together certain chemical substances, make them react in a prescribed way, and lo and behold! You will get the products in accordance with the relative chemical equation with 100% certainty. God is not the value of "x" in an algebraic equation so that once you solve the equation correctly, you will know "x"! It is not as if one puts in, say chanting of some god's name, for a certain number of hours daily, combined with daily visit to a neighbourhood shrine, as also an elaborate daily ritualistic worship of the house deity for a certain number of years and then god has to appear before him! God will COME to you at His own sovereign will. Does it mean one can't or need not, do anything to meet God? What one DOES cannot be a direct cause for taking him to god. What is fundamental is the desire to meet god. It also means that one has to turn away from the world (detachment - vairaagya bhaav), if s/he desires to meet god. The reason is one can't keep holding onto the river bank and hope to swim across to the far bank! Jesus Christ also said, "No one can serve two masters. You cannot serve both god and money." (Matthew 6:24). Thus, it seems clear that what one does is less important than what one stops doing since most of what one is doing is related to the worldly life. However, what one does in the spiritual realm, for example meditation, keeping company of like minded seekers, reading of holy literature, worship of a deity, chanting god's name etc, can help in getting one's mind to develop, and keep burning, an intense desire to meet god. It will also help keep one's mind away from the worldly matters and focus on the spiritual. Then one has to simply wait for god to come to him in His good time. Vairaagya (disinterest in worldly life) is a crucial prerequisite for moksha (liberation / salvation). However, this disinterest should be a mental phenomenon. What one is doing outwardly is immaterial. One may appear to be leading a normal life. But inwardly, he is detached from whatever may be happening around. Spiritual pursuit is a journey consisting of many steps. So, a gradual progression towards stronger and stronger vairaagya can be expected and not quite an overnight change. So, even that gradual change along the way is also a spiritual pursuit. However, moksha or liberation cannot come about until a thorough and durable vairaagya bhaav (detached attitude) is established firmly in one's mind. Moksha/Mukti (Salvation / liberation) is a liberation that can be experienced in this life when we are still in this body on this planet. It is basically liberation from the duality of pleasures and pains as normally experienced by us. Liberation is getting freed from - - Wants and desires pertaining to the body and ego - Fixed ideas of well-being of myself as also that of the near and dear ones - The fixation that I have to get this and that from the world - Wanting to become someone, reach somewhere, do something - The idea that one must live as long as possible even by unnaturally trying to extend one's life - The urge to compare myself with others For attaining this kind of salvation, one has to first get a strong a durable desire to attain it. One has to get disillusioned with the ups and downs and the constant agitation of mind that this life essentially is. Then by following a path of spiritual practice as prescribed by the scriptures and spiritual masters of the past, preferably under the grace of a living master, one will be able to transcend his identification with this limited body and ego. That is when the duality of pleasures and pains will disappear since it is associated with this limited identification. That ultimate spiritual experience of liberation can be experienced in this life, very much in this body and with this very mind Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.

In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. Shrimad Bhagawad Geeta (also referred to simply as Geeta) is the most revered of Indian scriptures that comprehensively presents the highest spiritual philosophy in the Indian tradition. It is believed to be told by Lord Shri Krishna to Arjuna on the Mahabharat battle field of Kurukshetra. Just before the epic war between Pandavas and Kauravas was to begin, Arjuna was suddenly overcome by confusion about whether it was right for him to fight his own cousins and other relatives as also his revered teachers (gurus) and other elders who were standing opposite him as his enemies. As a result, he dropped his weapons and sat down in his chariot in a completely distraught mood. It was then that Shri Krishna who had taken upon himself the job of being Arjuna's charioteer, preached the complete spiritual philosophy by way of Shrimad Bhagawad Geeta. It helped Arjuna understand clearly what this creation is and what the purpose of human life in it is. He could then proceed with fighting the Mahabharat war as a duty in a detached manner. Shrimad Bhagawad Geeta consists of 18 chapters and is originally in Sanskrit. There have been many explanatory commentaries on it by different philosophers and thinkers. The greatest of some of the most revered saints who lived during the 13th century in Maharashtra, Sant Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, wrote an incomparable commentary on the Geeta titled Bhavarth Deepika, more popularly known as Shri Dnyaneshwari, in Marathi verse form. It is believed that Lord Shri Krishna Himself reincarnated as Sant Dnyaneshwar primarily to take the Geeta philosophy down to the less educated seekers who were unable to understand the original Geeta in Sanskrit language. Shri Dnyaneshwari is the result of that. Sant Shri Dnyaneshwar maharaj took samadhi at a tender age of 21 years soon after completing Dnyaneshwari, which confirms the belief that the primary purpose of his incarnation was delivering Geeta philosophy to the masses of ordinary people. The original Dnyaneshwari is organised exactly on the lines of Geeta in 18 chapters. Each of the shlokas (verses) of Geeta has many owis (Marathi verses) explaining the meaning of the particular shloka. Sant Shri Dnyaneshwar excels in putting across the underlying philosophy by way of many different metaphors and examples from the day-to-day life making it easy for a sincere reader to understand and digest it. The Dnyaneshwari owis are in old Marathi of the 13th century. This series of books is an attempt by the author to take the Dnyaneshwari to non-Marathi seekers. It is versification of the original "owis" in English. It is presented in the following format - the original Sanskrit shloka of Geeta followed by its literal meaning in English and then the English verses corresponding to the related owis. At some places, more than one shloka is presented together if the meaning can be better understood that way. The reader is expected to have a reasonable degree of familiarity with Indian spiritual philosophy and the commonly used Sanskrit terms in respect of the various fundamental spiritual concepts. Chapter 1 and the first ten shlokas of chapter 2 of Geeta describe the formation of armies on both the sides with the names and qualities of the various warriors gathered on the battle field. There is also a description of the distraught state of Arjuna's mind in this initial part. The actual philosophical preaching by Lord Shri Krishna starts from Chapter 2, shloka 11 and hence this book also starts from that point onwards. This book is the first in a series covering chapter 2. Chapter 2 of the Geeta is regarded as the most important one since it presents most of the core spiritual philosophical concepts. In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. Spirituality is distinct from religion. Religion is a collective concept designed to ensure peaceful co-existence of the community as a whole. Religion, thus, is very much focused on the life in the physical world with only a peripheral regard to after-life, basically as a carrot/stick to control individual behaviour. Spirituality, on the contrary, is an individual pursuit, an inward journey towards self discovery or self-realization. It is a recognition of the impermanence and unimportance of the physical world and a recognition of the real and the eternal phenomenon that is before and after the physical creation, the spirit. It, therefore, goes without saying that spiritual pursuit has nothing to do with organised religions as they exist today. The ultimate aim of spiritual pursuit is liberation from the repeated cycles of birth and death and it cannot be achieved until one truly believes that one has had enough of this physical world founded on duality. Spiritual pursuit consists of a fundamental transformation of the seeker's attitude towards life in this world. It entails gradual and progressive reduction of one's interest in the physical world so that the mental space so vacated can be taken over by the spirit. This book presents the various facets of the above core philosophy. It advocates a spiritual pursuit which is practical as regards its adoption by an ordinary seeker who may still be a common householder. It puts across the typical Indian traditional non-dual spiritual philosophy. It starts with the non-dual theory of creation and explains the author's understanding of the concept of god too in that context. The other key concepts that are explained in the book are as follows - -Mind is simply a software program designed to give the embodied soul a fulfilling experience of this duality-based creation. -Desires are essential for a full experience of the fascinating play of duality during the first half of one's life in this physical world. However, in the second half, one should gradually withdraw his mind from the worldly life so that he can be prepared to leave this world in peace, not wanting to return in another life of more of the same thing. -The theory of karma with the core concept of doing your duty but not being attached to the fruit of it. -Pain (physical and egoic) is an essential part of the duality that this physical world is founded on. It is the non-acceptance of this reality that causes suffering. -A guru as a spiritual guide is of great help to a sincere spiritual seeker. However, a guru need not be sought because then one may land up with phony gurus. If a seeker sincerely pursues some suitable spiritual practice, a real guru will find him and guide him. -Accepting the tremendous variety in the creation without being judgmental. -A spiritual seeker should aim at a true feeling that he has nothing more to get from the world. He then lives totally in the present moment. -Faith is a critical pre-requisite for a sustained spiritual pursuit. Without strong faith, a seeker is very likely to give up his spiritual pursuit, especially if he expects some worldly benefit from his spiritual pursuit that often may not accrue. -Living in awareness of what human life is all about in a spiritual sense and not a mechanical living driven by worldly conditioning is an essential part of the spiritual pursuit. -Thoughtless state is a natural outcome of spiritual maturity and not an aim of meditation. Meditation is simply a way of letting the mind play itself out gradually while observing its games in a detached manner. -We see a dream and experience everything in the dream as if it is "real". But when we wake up, everything simple vanishes. Similarly, our "real" life may be just a dream of the Creator. So do not take this life seriously! This item is printed on demand.
