Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Second impression, so stated, in the publisher's original blue cloth with blue-green upper panel lettering and tri-color embossed illustration, octavo, pp. 439. Henry Roth's tissue-guarded frontispiece and five other full-page illustrations as called for. The cloth is a bit mottled/scuffed along the spine and some edges (see our image). Title page is working loose from the bottom. GOOD condition, withal. The Dictionary of Virginia Biography describes this work as "a novel about miscegenation that illustrated [Durham's] fear that so-called race mixing would lead to America's downfall. After publication and initial acceptance it was eventually rejected as being inflammatory, and Durham bought back the book's rights from the publisher in 1911." Please note that the book contains a vocabulary word that some readers, African-Americans in particular, may find offensive.
