Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. Levin, Sol (illustrator). First Edition First Printing. First Book by this radio-engineer turned science fiction author, a collection of 10 stories starring Don Channing, the Venus Equilateral Station, & the problems of interplanetary communication, all except one written especially for this collection originally published in "Astounding Science Fiction" magazine, 1942-1945. The initial print run of this edition in 1947 was limited to 3,000 copies. This is the true FIRST EDITION, First Printing, & it is SIGNED by the AUTHOR (his name only) to ffep. In 455 pages, with an Introduction by John W. Campbell, Jr, & stunning, duotone, Art-Deco-inspired illustrations by Philadelphia artist Sol Levin in his first published work. In the original, First State DJ (with white illustrations by Smith on a blue background & red printing). Octavo. Red cloth-covered boards lettered in black to spine, with DAMAGE to head of spine (like chewing) & loss here, so condition is only Fair. Else, the book is exceptionally clean & bright, pages white & unmarked. Binding strong & straight, just a hint of rubbing to extremities & mild corner bumping. The price-clipped DJ shows that same damage at head of spine, so also only Fair; else, bright & colorful with slight toning; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, Weekends & holidays ship very next business day. Signed by Author(s).
