Soft cover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. "The White Grub of the May Beetle" by J. A. Lintner New York State Entomologist, was published in November 1888 as Bulletin No. 5 of the New York State Museum of Natural History. The pamphlet, stapled and glued and bound in printed wraps, has several small vignette wood engravings of the beetle in various stages of life. the illustrations also feature enemies of the beetle, both insectiverous (a wasp) and fungal. The book was printed by James A. Lyon in Albany. Exceptionally well preserved, the book suffers only from a closed surface tear on the front cover. I was only able to display this by providing a view of the verso of the front cover, whereon I could indicate the location of the tear. Else the book is very nicely preserved indeed. Front cover has a simple double line border. Back cover blank. The paper is laid paper, with the wire-mark impressions clearly seen. The paper of the cover is obviously fragile. CONDITION - NEAR VERY GOOD - This is a previously owned book which remains clean and attractive, with the following particulars noted : EXTERIOR - Just perceivable on the front cover is a small surface tear with accompanying shallow surface creases (see the view I've provided of the verso of the front cover which shows more clearly the position of the tear, as it does not show up well in the views of the cover). Also a touch of weathering (or toning ) along the spine. Spine fold has a nick near the top extremity, and, as well, there is minute loss at the extremities. Rear cover has a bit of near-negligible rub - else the exterior is crisp and clean. BINDING - Solid - tight INTERIOR - Clean and free of marking. Joseph Albert Lintner (illustrator).…
