The author hoped it would be instrumental in arousing "government officials to action to bring the speedy abolition of the convent system in America and to restore the enslaved victims their God-given liberty guaranteed by the Constitution of American Commonwealth." Photographs and illustrations are included. The previous owner's name is on the FFEP; lacking a small upper portion of one page above a portrait, appears to have been done when binding, no text affected; otherwise, this HARDCOVER copy is clean and solid.

A few small, speckle-like stains to front cover and page edges. Otherwise, text clean and binding tight. L.J. King was a prolific anti-Catholic author and speaker who left the Roman Catholic priesthood and converted to Protestantism; some of his other publications express support for the Ku Klux Klan and its anti-Catholic, anti-immigrant agenda. This book condemns Catholic priests for supposedly corrupting their female penitents.

Enlarged edition. First published by the author in 1913, this book provides a brief history of auricular confession in the Catholic church and its use by priests to trap women into engaging in obscene conversations that lead to sexual trysts. King describes it thusly: "It is here that the priests of Rome linger. It is here where they bask in the dark shadows of their beastly nature as they gradually wend their way through the corridors of childish confidence, into the secret chambers of the soul. Her relentless pursuer now plies her with one obscene question after another until her consciousness seems bewildered in a sea of vile and impure suggestions" (p. 27). L. J. King was a Toledo-based Protestant preacher and ex-Catholic who toured the country giving anti-Catholic speeches that sometimes turned violent ("Preacher Stoned. Riot Following Anti-Catholic Sermon by Rev. L. J. King," The Republican, Wed, Apr 08, 1914, p.10). He also authored a number of other similar titles. This edition was published posthumously by the Book & Bible House in Decatur, GA, which was run by King's successor, the Rev. Fred J. Junior, also a Catholic convert. Perfect-bound covers (6 ½" x 4 ½"), yap edges, 128 p., illus., adverts. Light edge wear, but near fine.

Interesting.

Paperback. 1st Edition. Vol. 11 #1. 32p. Good condition, intact but old crease mark where it was folded in half vertically and small puncture hole in center of front cover. This was apparently an annual publication put out by an evangelical Protestant missionary who had left the Roman Catholic Church. The magazine's stated purpose is to serve as "an exposure of the lying wonders, doctrines of devils and false claims of the Apostate Romish Church." Includes articles such as "Purgatory or the Pope's Pawn Shop" wherein we learn the Bible teaches that "The Roman Church makes slaves of her people upon earth - and after death makes merchandise on the souls of men". No copies of this journal are located on WorldCat.
