In alphabetischer Anordnung werden die Werke von ca. 110 gekrönten Häuptern, Kirchenfürsten und Adligen, meist des europäischen Raums, seit der Antike beschrieben. - Der lutherische Theologe Löscher (1673-1749) legte durch ein Studium der Philologie und Geschichte zu Wittenberg und Jena das Fundament zu einer universalen Bildung, die sein theologisches Interesse erst langsam zum Vorschein kommen ließ. Er war Superintendent in Jüterbog und Delitzsch, 1707 Professor zu Wittenberg, zwei Jahre später Superintendent und Oberkonsistorialassessor in Dresden, ein wichtiger Vertreter der lutheranischen Orthodoxie. Löscher war der bedeutendste Gegner des aufkommenden Pietismus, wobei er Forderungen der 'praxis pietatis' aufnahm, sich jedoch gegen die dogmatische Indifferenz wehrte. Nach 1723 wehrte er sich auch gegen den Deismus und trat der Philosophie Chr. Wolffs entgegen. Ferner war er der Herausgeber der ersten theologischen Zeitschrift und Verfasser von etwa 120 Kirchenliedern. Vgl.
