Our basis for believing this is our personal conscious experience: we are always aware of our present ideas, including our present memories of what is past. Hence, it seems that "the consciousness" and "the now" are the same object of thought. Given the openness of Physics and the role which consciousness seems to have in determining the present, I suggest that consciousness is the combination of reverse-time causality and sentience. This implies that sentient beings - at least of a certain level of sophistication - will automatically be conscious. Moreover, I suggest that the purpose, function or significance of consciousness is to enhance the quality of thought; raising it up from the level of basic logic to that of insightful, gestalt, epistemic understanding. The conscience is supposed to be, in part at least, an intuition of right and wrong. Now, if right action is righteous precisely because it produces beneficial outcomes, and wrong action is heinous precisely because it produces baleful outcomes; then it would seem that conscience must be understood as providing some information regarding the future. I therefore suggest that the consciousness is an intimation of justice as the seat of "faith," "the conscience," and "epistemic knowledge"; and the explication of the idea of "free-will." The two issues that he raised were: first, the decision by the Vatican to recognize as both valid and licit the use of that version of the Anaphora1 of Addai and Mari which has no obvious "words of consecration"; and second, my description of the term "Transubstantiation" as contentious. I had not written anything focussed on the doctrine of the Eucharist previously, because I believed that this topic has been covered very thoroughly by many other writers of greater scholarship than myself. However, it now seems to me that I do have something worthwhile to contribute to the topic. This book covers the theology, philosophy and spirituality of the Eucharist. I believe that it is impossible to separate these from another without doing violence to one's appreciation of and participation in the Eucharist. The structure of the book is as follows. I begin with a review of the Scriptural texts pertinent to the Eucharist and propose a novel theory regarding its institution. I then consider a variety of Patristic texts which are advanced by Roman Catholic, Byzantine Orthodox and Protestant disputants as favouring their particular Eucharistic theologies. Next, I present a theological analysis of the Eucharist as the three-fold rational sacrifice which fulfils the Aaronic worship ritual. I then discuss the controversy over the "form of the Eucharist" before discussing Eucharistic Ontology from a Platonist perspective. Finally, I discuss Eucharistic spirituality and critique the revolutionary changes made to the Roman Liturgy in the name of pope Paul VI. This item is printed on demand. The dialogue "Nyxostates," summaries many conversations I have had with Abid Siddique, another close friend of mine. Ahead, he half saw the cloaked figure of Sir Ambrose mounted on the great Roan that was his pride and joy. The jingling of harness and the sound of muttered prayers confirmed that Dom Pharsea was close behind. "How much further now, Ambrose?" the druid called out in his strong bass voice. "I should know these woods, but they seem strange tonight - as if I'd never been here!" "We're almost there, My Lord Jalgrod," the knight replied. "The crescent moon gives little light and I thought to take best advantage of the darkness by avoiding the main path. This way will lead just as surely to the gnome, and we'll not be seen by inquisitive eyes." Ambrose's confident words did little to lift Jalgrod's mood.
