Illustrated boards have rubbing and bumping to corners and spine. The spine is faded and discoloured with some damp staining which also affects the left side of the front panel and the bottom of the rear panel. Page edges are browned with a little staining to the top edges. The decorative endpapers are lightly browned with staining along the hinge to the front endpapers. There is a small neat inscription to the f.e.p. and there is a repair to pp13. This collection of forty six short verses for children is very much in the style of A. A. Milne's first collection of verses 'When We Were Very Young' which was published by Methuen just a year before in 1924. In that same year Lucas was appointed Chairman of Methuen & Co and it was he who introduced Milne, a fellow writer for Punch magazine, to Ernest H. Shepard, the rest, as they say, is history.
