Stephen Blackwood, out of work photographer, lives in the quiet village of Ravensleigh which lies in the shadow of Ravensweald Hall where whispers of ghosts and ancient curses linger.Stephen has led a seemingly uneventful life until his ex-partner is killed and their child is hospitalised. Desperate for work in order to care for his son, he visits the mysterious five-sided tower in the grounds of Ravensweald Hall for a photo-shoot for a new job. It is here where Stephen is flung through time to civil war England, 1644. The tower will be his exit back to his time and home, but he soon learns that he must remain in the past for a year - those are the rules. The world he has entered is perilous and bound by old laws, witchcraft and superstition. With danger closing in and an evil adversary on his trail, Stephen uncovers secrets buried in the Hall's shadowy past. Haunted by strange occurrences and helped by some of the enigmatic individuals he meets, Stephen must confront the dark forces at play. His loyalties are tested and he is faced with difficult, if not impossible choices. Will he reunite with his gravely ill son? Will Hope be enough? Stephen's survival is, by no means, a given.

"From the days of the emperor Augustus (27 B.C.-A.D. 14) the emperor and his court had a quintessential position within the Roman Empire. It is therefore clear that when the Impact of the Roman Empire is analysed, the impact of the emperor and those surrounding him is a central issue. The study of the representation and perception of Roman imperial power is a multifaceted area of research, which greatly helps our understanding of Roman society. In its successive parts this volume focuses on 1. The representation and perception of Roman imperial power through particular media: literary texts, inscriptions, coins, monuments, ornaments, and insignia, but also nicknames and death-bed scenes. 2. The representation and perception of Roman imperial power in the city of Rome and the various provinces. 3. The representation of power by individual emperors.".

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This publication reports the proceedings of a one-day seminar on The Application and Numerical Solution of Integral Equations held at the Australian National University on Wednesday, November 29, 1978. It was organized by the Computing Research Group, Australian National University and the Division of Mathematics and Statistics, CSIRO. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Dr M.L. Dow was unable to participate. At short notice, Professor D. Elliott reviewed Cauchy singular integral equations, but a paper on same is not included in these proceedings. The interested reader is referred to the recent translation of V.V. Ivanov, The Theory of Approximate Methods and their Application to the Numerical Solution of Singular Integral Equations, Noordhoff International Publishers, Leyden, 1976. An attempt was made to structure the program to the extent that the emphasis was on the numerical solution of integral equations for which known applications exist along with explanations of how and why integral equation formalisms arise. In addition, the programme reflected the broad classification of most integral equations as either singular or non singular, as either Fredholm or Volterra and as either first or second kind.
