This copy is in near fine condition bound in burgundy cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine and the upper board where there is also a blind thistle device. This copy is bright, tight, white and square There are some typical rubs and bumps to the extremities. There is a pencilled signature to the f.e.p. and a stamp of the issuing bookseller (Paterson, Sons & Co. Glasgow) A dustwrapper is not called for. This copy is from the seventh edition which is undated however the attractive tissue guarded frontispiece 'Proud Maisie' is by Frederick Sandys. The drawing is one of a series that Sandys made in 1867, each of which is known by the title Proud Maisie, and which was inspired by Walter Scott's poem Proud Maisie.
