The owner was Sir Michael Hicks Beach, 1st Earl of St. Aldwyn and 9th Baronet of Beverston. He had a long political career serving as a Conservative MP from 1864 until 1906, twice serving as Chancellor of the Exchequer and briefly as Leader of the Opposition in 1886. Overall condition is Very Good Minus. Size: 5.5 x 7.75 inches (13 x 19.5 cm). Hardback. Printed pages: 8vo. vi, [2], 276, [4] (ads), 24 (ads).

As part of that interest he collected quotes from the great and the not-so-great into a weighty manuscript that is presented here. Unfortunately Stuart passed away in 2018. His wife, Yun Soon, decided that she would like to see the fruits of Stuart's labour turned into a book, which led to the publication of A Passion for Quotes. The book is organised alphabetically by category, with some quotes appearing in more than one category. (MP).
