Collected and edited by folklorist G.S. Macquoid, this book is a rich resource for those with an interest in the history, culture, and literature of Scotland and its tumultuous 17th and 18th centuries. The Jacobite worldview, as seen through these songs and ballads, is one of loyalty to their exiled king, a deep suspicion and resentment of the Protestant Hanoverian monarchy in London, and a passionate attachment to the Highlands and its traditional Gaelic culture.
