The main difference withrespect to the conventional all-digital SS receiverdesign approach is that the proposed mixedanalog/digital processing results in a symbol ratesampling rather than the high rate sub-chip sampling.The analog signal despreading is a key part of theproposed receiver solution. The potential advantagesof analog despreading are reduced power consumptionand low receiver complexity. Also, the proposedreceiver solution allows very high chip rates (veryhigh signal bandwidth). The solution is based on afive port device, a passive RF square law type ofdevice. It is used to perform two important tasks atthe same time, namely, the direct conversionand the analog despreading.…
