Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. In 2008 a copy of this book, also still in its shrink wrap, sold in auction for $161.00 and then $241.00. In 2007, an A+ rated copy of this book sold for 336.00 in auction. Obviously the prices has come down since then. I purchased the book in shrink wrap somewhere around that time. Unfortunately I wasn't selling books back then. But I never did remove the shrink wrap, and it's been sitting in my bookcase out of reach of the sun for all these years. To my eye (that is what my eye can see), it looks pretty close to perfect. There is a little crinkle at the spine ends. The corners look fine. There may or may not) be a tiny bump/dent on the front just adjacent to the spine. There's a lot of cellophane there so it's kind of hard to see. I can see that the page edges are perfectly clean, as are the covers of the jacket. I obviously can't see what edition this copy is, so I won't be identifying it as a first. I expected to be listing this book for around $250.00-$300.00 (that's where the least expensive dust jacketed copies were selling when I first bought it) but time can always be counted on to upset expectations. Here is the way the book was described the auction listings: 'A major reference work for those seriously interested in starting a map collection or improving their knowledge on the subject. In the preface, the author states that he is writing for people who wish to acquire collectible maps, and he therefore uses maps that are available and not too expensive as his examples. This book addresses the issues of forgeries, condition, identification, research, purchasing, and collection care. Includes many illustrations in black-and-white and eight in color. Valuable information for the novice collector as well as the long-time serious collector. 320 pp., 250 illustrations in black and white and color. Hardbound with dust jacket.' You can read a little bit more by zooming in on the photo of the rear jacket.
