È su questo periodo che Marco Fagioli ci aiuta a far luce, rilevandone la peculiarità rispetto al contesto nazionale contemporaneo, individuandone il percorso proprio - nei termini di una mancanza di quella rottura fra astratti e figurativi che si produsse nell'immediato dopoguerra - e le influenze che la segnarono, come quella di Oscar Kokoschka.
