Edizione plantiniana del 1625 dell'«Ufficio della Beata Vergine Maria», fissato nella forma tridentina da Pio V e destinato alla devozione privata in tutte le sue sfaccettature, dalla recita delle ore canoniche all'ufficio dei defunti sino alla commemorazione dei principali snodi del calendario liturgico. Tutte le sezioni sono corredate da belle rubriche e capilettera in rosso. Le tirature plantiniane di questi Officia diffuse a partire dalla fine del Cinquecento sono celebri per cura tipografica e apparato iconografico: frontespizio inciso, vignette allegoriche, iniziali istoriate e tavole calcografiche a piena pagina che accompagnano i momenti principali dell'Ufficio. La presente edizione del 1625 si colloca in questa tradizione e rappresenta uno dei prodotti di maggior prestigio della bottega Moretus, erede di Plantin, la più importante tipografia anversese d'età barocca. L'«Officium» costituì per oltre un secolo il principale riferimento per la devozione cattolica europea: testo di privata preghiera e insieme libro d'arte uno dei vertici dell'arte tipografica seicentesca. Le edizioni plantiniane degli Officia mariani, per raffinatezza tipografica e apparato iconografico, sono oggi frequentemente esposte nei maggiori musei di storia del libro e della tipografia, oltre che nel Plantin-Moretus Museum di Anversa, interamente dedicato all'arte tipografica barocca.
