Captain Frederick Marryat (1792-1848), of the Royal Navy, became a popular novelist of (what else?) sea stories, the progenitor of Conrad, O'Brien, and Forester. Although often reprinted, his period works are scarce today. "The King's Own" was h…is second novel, originally published in 1830.
