Women s physicality remained thesubject of intense debate, particularly when thesocio-economic conditions worsened and threatened thesurvival of families. Still, despite the patriarchaland other barricades, the Polish national strugglesfor independence and the emergence of the New Woman created significant institutional and ideologicalspaces for sportswomen to build their physicalculture.
