L'adozio…ne e lo sviluppo di un sistema di esami online costituiscono un'area di ricerca molto attiva negli ultimi anni. Questo libro esamina lo stato dell'arte e le migliori pratiche relative a nove sistemi di esame online generici presenti in letteratura, nonché alcuni sistemi industriali dedicati basati su sette caratteristiche interconnesse selezionate, ovvero: accesso sicuro, possibilità di ripresa, multi-docente, selezione casuale delle domande, distribuzione casuale delle domande, distribuzione casuale delle risposte e metodo di implementazione della portabilità. Nonostante l'implementazione di questi sistemi sia promettente, essi presentano alcuni punti deboli. Ad esempio, mettendo in pratica i sistemi di esame esistenti, si riscontrano alcune caratteristiche impegnative (che fungono da pregi) e altre mancanti (che fungono da difetti). Tra queste caratteristiche, ovvero: la capacità di ripresa e la combinazione di caratteristiche di randomizzazione, mancano in tutti i sistemi esaminati.
