La prima analizza, elenca e descrive le monete d'oro, la seconda quelle d'argento degli Stati, Ducati, Principati di tutto il mondo. Ogni moneta viene raffigurata con disegno preciso, su 240 tavole in litografia, e per ogni moneta si descrive il peso ed il valore.

Legatura coeva in mezza pelle, piatti in percallina, dorso con nervi e titoli in oro decorato con fregi impressi in oro e a secco, nome di appartenenza impresso a secco al piatto anteriore, risguardi in carta marmorizzata, la data si deduce dalla prefazione (1 novembre 1846). Il volume è interamente illustrato con 240 tavole in b/n riquadrate in cornice, stampate al recto e al verso e suddiviso in due parti: la prima dedicata alle valute in oro, la seconda a quelle in argento, con centinaia di finissime incisioni di monete, ciascuna accompagnata dalla "denominazione", dalla "bontà" e dal "peso", e raggruppate per paese di coniatura. Piatto anteriore staccato, difetti alla legatura, strappo di 7 cm a due tavole senza mancanze, ma all'interno in buono stato. in 8° pp. nn. [8, 2 + 240 c. di tavv.].

A presentation copy, inscribed from the author to an unnamed person, dated 1861, on the front flyleaf. A fine work on numismatics, with engravings of 684 silver and 563 gold coins from around the world. Contains numerous samples of North and South American coinage. The author was for many years a missionary to Indian tribes in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and wrote a book (now very rare) about his employment there. A lovely work. Rare. Not on OCLC.
